Marvin just got a huge raise at work. Now, he and his wife Linda want to splurge on a home improvement project. They always thought the backyard of their Oklahoma City home was a little boring, and they wanted to do something that would heighten the outdoor space.
Linda has a brilliant idea: they should install an outdoor kitchen, and in another space, they should get a fire pit.
“I understand the fire pit, but why the outdoor kitchen?” says Marvin. “We’ve got a grill, and we’ve got a counter inside to put things. I don’t see why we would need that.”
In reality, fire pits and outdoor kitchens are a great idea for homeowners like him. They are an extra place to get some cooking done, host parties, and create overall value for your home.
An Outdoor Kitchen Can Improve Your Outdoor Space
If you’ve ever toured modern, high-priced houses, one feature you’ll often see is an outdoor kitchen. It is the ultimate draw for people who want to host parties with friends and neighbors.
Outdoor kitchens have a setup of everything you need, so you can cook outside rather than inside. This can include cooking surfaces like grills, stoves, and sometimes even ovens. There’s also shelf space to put utensils and counter space where you can prepare the food before heating it.
Some people also install a bar area with stools, providing guests a place where they can eat. This adds convenience for the summer months, when you want to spend time outside, soaking in the sun, and enjoying a nice cold beverage while enjoying a meal with your friends.
If you hired someone to cater your party, an outdoor kitchen can be the perfect place for them to prepare food if they didn’t already do so beforehand.
Keeps Lingering Odors Outside
The smell of a delicious, home-cooked meal can be a treat in itself. But sometimes, that smell will linger and become an unwanted odor. There are various ways to get rid of that, but a very simple way is to do your cooking in an outdoor kitchen.
Ultimately, you’ll get the same great sensation. The difference is the smells will stay outside rather than settling within your walls.
Outdoor Kitchens Drive Up Your Home Value
According to Zillow, an outdoor kitchen is one of several amenities in your outdoor space that can drive up the price of your home. Others include TV’s, and even showers. Any one of those can ensure that when you sell your home, you can get about $10,000 more than what you asked for.
Of course, all sales vary based on your situation. So it might be more, and it might be less.
With that being said, you shouldn’t get an outdoor kitchen just because you want to drive up your home’s value. Most people tend to break even in the end, with maybe a little bit of a profit. So if you’re thinking of installing one in your backyard, focus on the value it’s creating for your family, not what will go back into your wallet.
Fire Pits Help You Get Cozy
Fire pits can present the perfect opportunity for parties all year long in Oklahoma. In the spring and summer, they can light up the night as you talk with your friends about whatever is going on in your life.
In the fall and winter, the weather gets a little colder, and that’s the perfect opportunity to gather around the fire to warm up. This is perfect for Oklahoma winters. It gets cold, but it’s not extreme enough that you want to stay indoors. Cozying up by a warm fire is just the right activity.

The Installation Process
The first thing we do when we take on this kind of project is consult with you. We’ll ask you some questions about what you’re looking for, and we’ll take a look at your property to see if it’s doable.
You might have a very vague idea of what you want. For example, you might just want a grill or a stove. Maybe you want a little bit of both, but you also want more of a kitchen bar area to serve guests in addition to that. Or maybe you just want a fire pit with a specific design.
After we’ve taken everything into account, and we’ve made our designs. It’s time to get started.
Every project is different, but the first step is often pouring concrete into the area where we’ll be working. We set the border with wooden planks. Then we put in the gravelly base and rebar. After that, we pour the concrete and smooth it out.
If you want stamped concrete, we’ll go through and apply the mats after it has already been poured.
When we are done pouring, then we start building the fire pits or kitchens according to what you are looking for.
