Repair or Replace?

Sure, concrete is tough, durable, and meant to last forever — but it needs to be maintained, renewed, or replaced. Besides, concrete, like anything else outside and exposed to the elements and constant foot traffic, can get dirty, dingy, chipped, scraped, and worn out.

Not every crack means a new slab, and not every patch is worth paying for. Oklahoma clay, freeze-thaw winters and summer heat all take a toll, and the right fix depends on what’s happening under the surface. Here’s how we decide:

Repair it when…

cracks are hairline to about ¼ inch and the slab is still level; the surface is flaking but the concrete underneath is solid; joints are open and letting water and weeds in; or the concrete is sound but faded, stained or unsealed.
Replace it when…
sections have sunk, heaved or tilted into a trip hazard; cracks are wide, growing or full-depth; water is pooling or running toward the house; the base has washed out; or repairs would cost more than half a replacement.

Sunken slabs usually need replacement. We rebuild the base so it doesn’t happen again.

Not sure which you need? Our estimates are free, and we’ll show you exactly what we see.

Crack & Spall Repair

Crack Repair

Cracks are cleaned out and filled with a flexible, weather-rated filler that moves with the slab, which stops water from getting underneath.

Joint Sealing

Control and expansion joints are resealed so rain, weeds and freeze-thaw can't widen them.

Spall & Surface Repair

Flaking or pitted spots are ground back to sound concrete and patched. If the damage is widespread, we'll tell you when replacing that section is the better investment.

Concrete Sealing: When and How Often

Sealing is the cheapest insurance your concrete can get. A penetrating sealer keeps water, salt and oil out of the surface, the main causes of spalling and freeze-thaw cracking. It won’t change the look of broom-finish concrete, and on stamped and colored concrete it protects the color.

How often?

Every [2–3] years for driveways, patios and pool decks. Stamped and colored concrete may need it more often in full sun.

When?

Fall is ideal; sealing before winter keeps freeze-thaw moisture out. New concrete should cure about [28 days] before its first seal.

Winterizing

Don’t let winter wreak havoc on your concrete surfaces! OKCrete offers comprehensive protection with our concrete-winterizing process.

Resurfacing & Overlays: Our Honest Take

Many contractors offer thin “overlays” that trowel a new skin over old concrete. We don’t install them. In Oklahoma’s freeze-thaw cycles, overlays tend to delaminate and peel, and they can’t fix the cracking or settling underneath. They just hide it for a while.

What we do instead is true resurfacing. We repair the cracks and joints, rework damaged sections, then clean and seal the surface. Where a section is too far gone, we replace it, so the fix actually lasts.

and so will you
There is a reason why they are the best and why I went with them and for the future!
“When mistakes are made they make sure things are done right. The first pour did not go as planned and basically had to rip it out and replace. Some companies would say that's good enough but not them. They jumped right on it very quickly and replaced it! Wow! Me and my wife are very pleased with the result. I will recommend them to anyone that ask who did my concrete work for my patio expansion.”

Concrete Repair FAQs

Can cracked concrete be repaired?
Usually, if the slab is level and the crack is under about ¼ inch. Wide, growing or sunken cracks usually mean the base has failed and that section should be replaced.
If repairs would cost more than about half a replacement, or the problem is structural, replace it. We’ll give you both numbers.
No. A sunken slab means the base underneath has failed, so we replace that section and rebuild the base.
Every [2–3] years for outdoor concrete in Oklahoma.
No. They don’t hold up to Oklahoma freeze-thaw, so we repair, seal or replace instead.
Expansive clay swells and shrinks with moisture, freeze-thaw cycles open small cracks, and a weak base or too much water in the original mix makes it worse.
